Security Cover Letter: A Simple Structure That Works

Most security cover letters are either missing or far too long. A short, specific letter shows exactly the qualities employers want: clear communication and attention to detail.
A four-part structure
- Opening — the role you are applying for and one line on who you are.
- Experience — two or three concrete examples relevant to the job.
- Fit — why this employer or site, in a sentence or two.
- Close — your availability, licence status and how to reach you.
Example opening
"I am applying for the night security officer role at your logistics site. I hold a valid licence and have spent three years on static and mobile patrols, including alarm response and incident reporting." Adapt it to your own facts — never claim experience you do not have.
What to leave out
- Details about previous clients or sensitive sites.
- Generic phrases like "hard-working team player" without examples.
- Anything longer than one page.
